(Port) Wine of the month May 2021: Ramos Pinto Quinta de Ervamoira 2018 (DOC)

Ever since Ramos Pintos winemakers stopped bottling their Reserva Especial in 2008, this traditional house did not have a true Douro icon wine. 10 years later MD Jorge Rosas and winemaker Joao Luis Baptista were pleased enough with the grape quality to restart the Douro Icon project, this time solely with grapes from prestigious Quinta de Ervamoira, close to the Spanish border in the sub-region Douro Superior: Dark red color with little reflexes. Fresh-fruity bouquet with floral elements, a spicy background and tobacco. Silky, ripe tannins, perfectly integrated acidity, black berry, cassis and tobacco. Long aftertaste.
